Rome

Well, with the exception of some good pizza in Piazza Navona, Rome was a huge disappointment.  We drove around in a bus for almost 10 hours and didn't see hardly anything. 

It's an hour & half from the port to Rome.  First we drove through "the old city" seeing things so quickly I don't know what most of them were.   Then we stopped briefly at the colliseum for photos & a short explanation. 

The Spanish Steps & Trevi fountain we're closed for renovation so we didn't even go by the steps & there was so much scaffolding in front of the Trevi fountain we couldn't see that either.

We did at least get to go in the Pantheon which was fascinating.

We ended our walk in Piazza Nuvona which was pretty & saw the fountain of the four winds and broke for lunch.

After lunch we headed to the Vatican,  I already knew everything would be closed since it's Sunday,  but we should've been able to see St. Peters Basillica.   It seems our bad luck preceded us.   After standing in line for 20 minutes or guide informed us all the gates, but one into St. Peters were broken & we would never made it inside in the time allotted.   So we wasted an hour in a gift shop & rose the bus another 1 1/2 back to the port.   We're both very disappointed & feel like we wasted nearly the entire day.   We have no immediate intentions of returning to Rome.

Hopefully tomorrow in Florence will be better,  although we already know much of the city will be closed since its Monday, so cross your fingers I guess.
