Naples

Today may have been my favorite yet.   We started the morning in Pompeii.  Seeing a 2000 year old town still intact was something.   It gave me a better idea of what all the ruins we've seen would have really been like.   You could even see some of the frescoes on the walls still.  Most of the casts of the people of Pompeii are in a museum so we only saw a couple.  

Part of our goal for the day was to eat every pizza we saw as this is the birthplace of pizza.   We found two shops,  one stand at the base of Pompeii and a fancier place in Sorrento.   Who would've guessed the best would be the random stand at the base of Pompeii!  I wish we could bring some home.

In the afternoon we shopped for awhile in Sorrento and then went to a farm to watch mozzarella bring made by hand & hear about how olive oil & limoncello are made.   It was a beautiful family farm up in the hills with a breathtaking view of the Almalfi coast.  They served us fresh cheese, tomatoes,  meats and pasta with lemon cake for dessert.   I remember my Italian teacher saying Americans cook their pasta to mush,  but never really understood until today.   Italians like their pasta much firmer.

Today's touring was at a much more relaxed pace than what we've been used to, it really gave us a chance to take a breath & feel like we're on vacation.   Tomorrow it's on to Rome.  Ciao!
