Pisa & Florence

Today we are in Tuscany.   The scenery here reminds me so much of the Midwest after being in such big cities for so much of the trip. 

The drive to Pisa took 45 minutes & was well worth it.   The church, baptistry and tower were beautifully detailed, especially the baptistry.  Things didn't open till 10 so we were only able to go inside the church and it was breathtaking.  

From there we continued on about an hour to Florence.   We had lunch at the recommendation of our guide at Trattoria Il Francescano and  supposedly met the great great grandson of Michaelangelo, who was waiting tables there.

We saw the Santa Croce church where Galileo and Michelangelo are buried, the interior of the Duomo (Church of Florence) and the Gates of Paradise on the Baptistry.  The museum & interior of the Baptistry were closed as were all the museums, so it was just a lot of walking & sightseeing.  We walked the Ponte Vecchio, shopped the Straw Market and saw the pig there,  and saw the copy of David outside the Pallazo Vecchio.   We enjoyed Florence,  but 3 hours was not nearly enough time.  We'd love to rent a villa & come back for a week.
